As a young university student, I struggled with anxiety, though for a long time, I didn’t even have the words to describe what I was feeling. Then, one sleepless night, I found myself watching an infomercial. They described symptoms exactly like mine—and for the first time, I heard it named: anxiety. The relief I felt in that moment was incredible; finally, I knew I wasn’t alone.
I ended up purchasing the program they advertised, a $600 collection of audio and video tapes with cognitive-behavioural techniques for managing anxiety. It was a crazy amount of money for me, as I was a student at the time. However, it turned out to be one of the best investments I ever made in my health and well-being.
Through this program, along with skills I later learned in counselling training and through life experiences, I was able to reclaim control over my life and significantly reduce my stress and anxiety.
